Piaget is expanding its Polo collection with two new minute repeaters that bring together the Maison’s ultra-thin watchmaking heritage and its longstanding expertise in high jewelry.
The new Piaget Polo Minute Repeater arrives in white gold with a blue-accented dial, while a second High Jewellery version adds blue sapphires and diamonds for a more elaborate finish.
What Is a Minute Repeater?
For readers who know Piaget but may not be immersed in watchmaking, a minute repeater is one of the more complex traditional watch complications. When activated, the watch uses tiny mechanical hammers and gongs to chime the time through a sequence of sounds for the hours, quarter hours, and minutes.
There are no speakers or digital components involved. The sound is produced entirely by the movement inside the watch.
Inside the Piaget Polo Minute Repeater
The Piaget Polo Minute Repeater is powered by Piaget’s 1290P self-winding mechanical movement, which contains 430 components and is developed and assembled at the brand’s manufacture in La Côte-aux-Fées, Switzerland.
The 48mm white gold case measures just 9.30mm thick, continuing Piaget’s long focus on ultra-thin watchmaking. Its partially openworked dial combines white gold, hand guilloché detailing, blue PVD accents, and a smoked blue sapphire ring that reveals part of the repeater mechanism beneath the surface.
Piaget plans to produce only five numbered pieces this year because of the amount of hand finishing required for each watch.
Piaget Adds a High Jewellery Version
The second release takes the same mechanical foundation and adds baguette-cut blue sapphires around the bezel, along with baguette-cut and brilliant-cut diamonds across the white gold case.
The dial is even more openworked, placing more of the movement on display, while a dark blue alligator leather strap completes the design.
Together, the two watches highlight the space Piaget has occupied for decades, where high watchmaking and high jewelry meet in the same piece.
