Anderson .Paak, Cordae, Busta Rhymes, and J Dilla lead a collectibles lineup that also celebrates 30 years of the Fugees’ The Score.
If your shelves hold as much music memorabilia as your phone holds playlists, Mass Appeal’s latest Comic Con lineup has your attention. Mass Appeal and Marvel are bringing hip-hop into the comic book collection, with releases featuring Anderson .Paak, Cordae, Busta Rhymes, and J Dilla. Alongside those collaborations, anniversary collectibles revisit the Fugees and one of Nas’ most enduring records.
The releases anchor Mass Appeal’s partnership with Whatnot at New York Comic Con, running October 8–11 at the Javits Center. At Booth #1000, the companies’ programming includes exclusive drops, live auctions, artist conversations, and DJ sets. Whatnot’s 5,000-square-foot Liveplex takes its design cues from a shopping mall, giving fans a place to browse, collect, and hear the stories behind the merchandise.
There is a familiar impulse behind the concept. Hip-hop fans have long collected records, magazines, concert shirts, and anything else that preserves a connection to the music. This weekend’s lineup gives that habit some new shelf space.
Mass Appeal and Marvel Put Artists on the Cover
One of the featured releases is Heavy Is The Crown, a Marvel comic collaboration with Anderson .Paak and Cordae. It shares its title with the duo’s forthcoming album, which the announcement lists for October 23. A Whatnot-exclusive variant adds artwork by Japanese comic artist Peach Momoko, giving collectors another interpretation to consider.

Busta Rhymes and J Dilla appear on an exclusive cover for a new edition of Incredible Hulk #1. The artwork re-creates the original 1962 issue’s composition, placing the artists in the roles of Bruce Banner and the Hulk. It connects two recognizable visual worlds through a cover that already carries decades of comic book history.
For fans who remember Marvel’s hip-hop variant covers, there is also a return to that series. Hip-hop journalist Rob Markman curated a 10-comic anniversary collection, revisiting covers that reimagined classic album artwork with Marvel characters. The set features metallic-foil finishes and is slated for exclusive availability through Mass Appeal’s live shopping streams.
Together, the releases offer several entry points. Some collectors will come for the artists, others for the illustrators or the original comics. The appeal lies in how much of that fandom overlaps.
The Fugees’ The Score Turns 30
The weekend’s collectibles also reach back to 1996. An exclusive superhero-inspired art print celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Fugees’ The Score, with Ms. Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean announced for an appearance to sign copies.
Another release honors Nas’ “If I Ruled the World (Imagine That),” featuring Ms. Lauryn Hill. A limited-edition T-shirt and hoodie mark the song’s 30th anniversary, placing another defining collaboration from that year into the collection.
Those anniversaries give the merchandise a specific connection to the music. For longtime listeners, the pieces revisit records they have carried through adulthood. For younger fans, they offer another way into the artists and collaborations behind them.
Nas Returns to Comic Con
For Nas, this year’s presence builds on an earlier connection with the convention’s audience.
“Last year at Comic Con was a special moment for us,” said Nas. “The response to the Legend Has It panel showed how much love there is for Hip Hop, art and storytelling in that community. We’re excited to be back this year with Whatnot and share some of the new projects we’ve been creating with Marvel.”
The announced weekend lineup includes Nas, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean, Busta Rhymes, Anderson .Paak, Cordae, and Erick the Architect. Programming pairs artist appearances with conversations, auctions, and opportunities to discuss the collectibles directly with fans.
That exchange is part of the draw. A cover or a shirt can stand on its own, but hearing why an artist chose a particular image adds something to the object. It gives collectors a story to carry home with it.
Where Fans Can Follow the Drops
The Mass Appeal x Whatnot experience runs through October 11 at Booth #1000. For fans outside the Javits Center, Whatnot’s live shopping broadcasts extend the programming beyond the convention floor. Select releases are convention exclusives, while others are tied to live streams.
Follow Mass Appeal and Whatnot for individual drop announcements and appearance updates. With distinct editions and sales channels in the mix, collectors should check the details for the specific item they want.
Hip-hop has always given fans something worth holding onto. At Comic Con, that connection takes the form of illustrated covers, anniversary prints, and records remembered through new artwork. The music brings people to the collection; the objects give them another way to keep it close.
