“Even though pursuing music professionally isn’t something you see very often in Indian or Asian culture, my family has been 200% supportive.”
It is an important part of her story without becoming the entirety of it. Maithili’s heritage informs her artistry, but she is not positioning herself inside one convenient box. Instead, culture becomes one more texture in a sound that pulls from different generations and musical traditions.
That may ultimately be what makes her interesting.
